This course is designed to introduce students to many facets of the journalist’s craft: reporting, writing, designing, creating graphics, taking photographs, and meeting firm deadlines. The classroom is modeled after a professional newsroom with students working as editors, designers, photographers, and reporters. Students are responsible for every aspect of producing the student-run school newspaper, The Ranger Review. This production-oriented class requires that students often work outside of normal school hours to cover events, work with advertisers, interview subjects, work on the layout of the paper, and gather research for their reporting. The Ranger Review is almost entirely self-funded, and students will be required to sell advertising as part of their grade.
